Kimmel Won’t Air New Episode Against Letterman Finale

Jimmy Kimmel is trying to think of a way to pay tribute to his show business inspiration. His plan is to put competition aside. Kimmel told the New York Times, that he won’t broadcast a new episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday, May 20th up against David Letterman’s final “Late Show”.
He said, “I have too much respect for Dave to do anything that would distract viewers from watching his final show. Plus, I’ll probably be crying all day, which makes it hard to work.” Kimmel’s night off comes in the middle of May’s ratings sweep.
As for the other late night shows, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” (which will lose its host in August) and “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” had already planned to be in repeats that entire week. And reps for both “Conan” and “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” have said that their hosts will do new shows on May 20th.
