For Throwback Thursday, Craig Ferguson tweeted out a picture from his youth in Scotland, featuring himself and a bandmate from his punk rock days.

If the young man on the right seems familiar, it should: that’s Peter Capaldi, best known as the current lead on “Doctor Who.” Years before Pete was an established actor and Oscar-winning director, and Craig was a popular comedian and Peabody-winning late night talk show host, both were in a punk rock band in Glascow. Called Dreamboys (the original name was The Bastards From Hell), featured Capaldi on lead vocals and guitar, and Ferguson on drums. A quick image search brings up several images of Capaldi and Ferguson together, including one of them performing with an all-girl band in drag. Dreamboys produced one EP, but unfortunately Craig couldn’t attend the session, so another drummer was used.
The Britain-based Capaldi unfortunately only made one appearance on Ferguson’s “Late Late Show” in 2009, where the two discussed their old band days (and doing acid in Craig’s Ali Baba-themed flat). Ferguson would later congratulate his fellow Who fanatic on scoring his dream job in 2013, and would happily tell guests who recognized the blue box on his desk their history. Dreamboys might have faded away like most small college-age bands, but their musical abilities live on in their projects. Ferguson played drums several times on “The Late Late Show,” including the theme song that he wrote. This series, Capaldi’s Doctor has started playing guitar (which he picked himself), and he convinced producers to let him play along with the theme song on one episode.
