Superstore Renewed for a Third Season
NBC’s workplace comedy “Superstore” was just renewed for a third season. Led by America Ferrera the show stars the employees of Wal-Mart-esque big box store “Cloud 9”, with Ben Feldman, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, Nichole Bloom, Mark McKinney and Lauren Ash. It’s a young, diverse cast, which marks a network trying to keep up with powerful sites like Netflix, but “Superstore” is also an old-school single camera network comedy produced by a junta of tried and true execs with background in everything from “The Office” to “Zombieland”.
The show is an illusive success in these times of a few monolithic streamers more than encroaching on network’s turf. Networks have been trigger-happy cutting any shows with dim prospects after or even before the competition of their first season, so a third season is significant. Yet “Superstore” is not only a strong performer amongst Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers but ranks as NBC’s top show on streamer Hulu. In true network logic of more quantity and hopefully as much quality, “Superstore” from fifteen to twenty two.
