If you love sitting still and listening, well you get in that chair and shut your butt because NYC’s Podfest is almost here. More than twenty podcasts will be recorded in front of a live audience on the weekend of May 20st at Brooklyn’s Bell House  and Manhattan’s Cake Shop.

The fourth year of the festival features awards honoring established podcasts and slots for all kinds of up-and-coming acts. The fest kicks off with “Tell ‘Em Steve-Dave” performing and the hosts receiving the 2nd Annual Kevin Allison Excellence in Podcasting Award. Those special hosts are Brian Quinn, Brian Johnson and Walt Flannagan. Then, that award’s initial recipient (and namesake!) will hold a release show for MTV’s “The State” book with Kevin Allison, Janeane Garofalo, Seth Herzog and surprise guests performing. The book can be purchased on-line and an in-person book signing will be held for those who purchased their book in advance.

The weekend progresses with a live performance of “Guys We Fucked: The Anti Slut-Shaming Podcast” hosted by Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson with a surprise guest and winds up at Cake Shop with “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!”, with Dick Cavett guesting, and a special performance of “Yum’s the Word” presenting its 31 flavor shows with story telling from Morgan Spurlock, “Welcome to Nightvale’s” Desiree Burch and The Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj, among others. The audience will be involved in making their own story through ad-libs with Robin Gelfenbien (VH1).

Other highlights includes an interview with Jon Batiste (“Late Show with Stephen Colbert”) for “2 Chairs and a Microphone”, “An Intimate Evening with the Flop House” hosted by Elliott Kalan, Dan McCoy and Stuary Wellington. “You Know What Dude” hosted by Robert Kelly will guest star Colin Quinn (“SNL”), Joe List (“Letterman”), Dan Soder (CONAN), and Luis J. Gomez (Last Comic Standing). “Where’s Larry: An Impractical Jokers Podcast” will debut hosted by superfans Danny and Chris, as well as truTV’s Impractical Jokers producer John Szeluga and writer James McCarthy. “Mouth Time with Reductress”, “Think Again – a Big Think Podcast”, “The Ensemblist”, “Lady Parts Justice’s Repro Madness!”, “Dr. Gameshow with Jo Firestone”, “In the Conversation”, “The Dave Juskow Podcast”, “Keith and The Girl’s”, “The Adventures of Danny & Mike”, “Black Men Can’t Jump (In Hollywood)”, “Pretty Much It’s”-they’re all debuting or airing or something. These shows are a variety of think tanks, game shows and interviews. There has to be something here for everyone because there’s just so damn much.

We’ll be checking it all out, some come down and hang out.  Tickets available at nycpodfest.com.
