Netflix Grabs Indian Comedy at Sundance

netflix sundance

Netflix shows no sign of slowing down at Sundance. This year, Netflix not only expanded original programming, they have also been aggressive in acquiring new movies, specifically expanding their Sundance collection.

In addition to the Ellen Page flick Tallulah and documentary Audrie and Daisy, Netflix is taking a chance on an Indian comedy with Brahman Naman. The film focuses on a group of sex-starved (read:college aged) men who are members of their college quiz team in 1980s India. The comedy follows the men as they find fun ways to masterbate, lust after women and generally make a mockery of India’s caste system. You know, typical college kid stuff.

The cast includes Shashank Arora, Tanmay Dhanania, Chaitanya Varad and Vaiswath Shankar.

Netflix has been killing it with new serial programming in the comedy category- (Arrested Development, Orange Is the New Black, Wet Hot American Summer, Master of None, Kimmy Schmidt for starters), and their recent four picture deal with Adam Sandler gave them their most viewed property to date (The Ridiculous Six) — and that includes classics, originals, everything.

A few years ago I was laying in bed watching Netflix and I looked at my girlfriend at the time and said “we should buy stock in Netflix, it’s only a matter of time before they start producing their own content.” Of course I was kidding, I’m a DIY artist, I don’t own stocks in anything, The point of the statement rings true though. Netflix found a new way to deliver content and they haven’t looked back.
