Socrates said, “Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.” While the sentiment is clear, it is also obvious that Socrates was around before televisions. These days, discussing people makes for fat wallets. No one has been more adept at turning the lives of celebrities into entertaining fodder (then turning that fodder into cold, hard cash) than Kathy Griffin.
Flatiron Books announced that they struck a seven figure deal with Griffin for her to pen Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Index A to Z, a compilation of celebrity anecdotes and since it is Kathy Griffin, no doubt some juicy personal tidbits will be included. In addition to Celebrity Index, she previously inked another seven-figure book deal with Ballantine for her best-selling memoir.
Griffin is the latest lady of laughter to sign a book deal. There is no exact figure on Griffin’s deal, so we can’t measure how she shapes up against recent deals like Amy Schumer’s $9 million or Tina Fey’s $6 million, but it is safe to say that if there are seven figures, she is no longer on the “D” list.
