The Open Source Year.
I could have released an album the traditional way but I wanted to do something unique. Something that fit with my authentic style and voice as a musician. As you are about to learn, this isn’t like any other music project you’ve likely heard of. The Open Source Year is the project my whole life as a musician has been leading up to.
Why?

These songs have come from the depths of my experience of following my passion no matter the cost. In a very real way, these songs have been the soundtrack of my life.

A Creative Commons Expirement

But The Open Source Year is more than just a new song each week. There’s a revolution happening in the music industry. I’m joining the revolution by releasing the source files for each song under Creative Commons Copyright, encouraging others to freely mix, remix, reinterpret, and build upon my work free of charge.

Original Art Work Inspired by the Music
Not only will you get new music, access to the raw source files, but I also wanted there to be a visual element to each song. Artist Angie Walters has agreed to produce an original artwork each week, uniquely inspired by my lyrics to compliment each song.

Where you come in. This isn’t a charity gig.
I’ve got just under a month to reach $10k to make this a reality. Crowd-funding is the perfect platform for the next generation of music because it isn’t asking for charity (you get the goods) and it doesn’t require the artist to give up his rights to a corporation. Take a look at the creative incentives I’ve come up with for your support. Maybe you want the music on a CD or a t-shirt, or even better… your own private show.
If you like my work and want to see this succeed, I’m also asking that you share The Open Source Year on your social networks and with your friends via email.
I’m going to need all the help I can get.
