Australian Producer Hosting Showcase Searching for Talent to Tour Down Under

Australian producer, Frontier Comedy, will host a showcase at The Improv on Melrose in Hollywood October 13th to pick out a group of young comedians to tour the down under continent come 2017.
The event is unprecedented as far as an independent producer making such a long trek to hunt for talent specifically for the Australian and New Zealand markets. If successful, the move would open up two huge markets, the American comedy market and the Australasian comedy market, to trade acts more freely.
The 18+ event is MC’ed by Australia’s stand-up Amos Gill and features Australian stand up mega-star Jim Jefferies, but will also showcase fourteen comedians submitted by LA’s agencies and management firms. Of the fourteen, two to four will be handpicked to tour Australia as a group in 2017, with individual tours following in 2018 and beyond.
The prospect of American acts becoming popular internationally and Australian acts gaining notoriety in the States is an exciting one. The impact a project like this could have on the comedy scenes in both the U.S. and Australia is obvious, with late-night spots and club shows evidencing the new diversity, but later wildly new talent-driven projects could arise across network television and through streaming platforms.
The producing company, Frontier Comedy, is a newly merged hybrid of two of Australia’s hugest entertainment companies, Frontier Touring and More Comedy. The first, an international concert promoter, was formed in 1979 and was named the #1 Independent Promoter Worldwide by Billboard in 2015. More Comedy is only about fifteen years old, but operates as Australia’s largest comedy agency and produces myriads of festivals and touring shows utilizing Australian and British comics. The event kicks off at 7pm, and you can get tickets at hollywood.improv.com.
