A Christmas Wish
Hi Buddays…
I really need some help for my best friend.
I’ve had the same best friend since I was 12 years old. We have been through everything together…getting married, having children. illness…vacations…EVERYTHING.
Yesterday I watched her become a widow at 39.
We found her husband down Monday morning. He was moaning in pain and gasping for help. I called an ambulance and the nightmare truly began.
24 hours later, She was signing over his organs to be harvested. A series of strokes left him brain dead.
I had the unfortunate task to help their mother explain to his three children their father was gone. In the cold light of day, I would have been more comfortable facing a firing squad then facing them with that news. It’s hard to try make them understand what happened when it’s all a blur to me.
Three kids.
They were in a tough spot before any of this.
Joe (the dad) had been out of work for 2 years before this. They had recently applied for public assistance. They applied as a hardship to Fannie Mae so they could keep their house. They told me they had to rely on their parents and siblings to provide Christmas presents for their children this year. They are by no means destitute, but they are standing on the edge of disaster.
And now, three children, who I love as my own, are without a father, two weeks before Christmas.
