420 Comedy Event Promises To Be Worth Every Penny of $99 Price of Admission
Dynamo Kingdom, a first of its kind comedy party erupts in New York City on 4.20.22, one night only. Billed as a live 420 event, this night of standup, rap battles, burlesque, DJs, a go go dinosaur dance after party, gaming, prizes, and lots of surprises is not cheap. It’s $99 to get in, but, the events organizers are fully confident that when the night is over, nobody will regret that ticket price. The venue is the renowned Chelsea Music Hall which will be transformed to accommodate a wide range of events all taking place at once.
What happens at the Dopest Party Ever? I spoke to event organizer and comedian Victor Varnado, and event organizer and the creative force behind the Creek and the Cave, Rebecca Trent.
The idea for the Dopest Party Ever evolved out of a long tradition comedian and event cofounder Victor Varnado had of throwing crazy parties at his home. “For a long time I’ve been obsessed with throwing the most amazing parties, and I also love to involve my friends with those parties. I would throw parties where even if you were an introvert you would have a good time because every place at the party would have video games you could play,” he said. “The parties got so crazy cause there would be Rock Band in one room and Dance Dance Revolution in another room and then dancing with a dj and activities. It got so crazy, once a German porn crew showed up at the party uninvited because they’d heard about it.”
Victor wanted to take that experience, and turn it into a yearly ticketed event. This will be the very first and it’s a lot bigger than what Victor was able to do back in his house. This party includes stand up comedy, a burlesque party with go go dancing dinosaurs, and video games people can play to win drinks, prizes and more. Thanks to sponsors there will be some free drinks passed around, and some free 420 “goodies” throughout the event too.
For stand up, Victor and Rebecca are bringing a killer lineup that includes Marina Franklin (Chappelle’s Show), Rob Cantrell (The Last OG), Joyelle Nicole Johnson (Late Night with Seth Meyers), Giulia Rozzi (Chelsea Lately), Victor Varnado (Jimmy Kimmel Live), and Seth Herzog (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon).
Battlicious will follow the stand up show, If you’re not familiar, its a rap battle show that ran at UCB for 7 years, usually sold out shows, often with pretty famous contestants. Dave Hill, Joe DeRosa Roxxy Haze, Myq Kaplan and Tierre Diaz will compete for the title and for laughs.
Victor told me only 200 tickets have been made available, but if you can’t get a ticket or just can’t make it to New York, you can crash the party virtually for the WorldWide 420 Comedy Special. Victor told me the party also represents a return back to having fun. “When we put the show together everybody was like, we’re tired, so tired of being inside for the pandemic. The world is changing when it comes to cannabis, so we were like can we make something that’s awesome where we can just have a good time. Can we have fun now?”
