This week in late night is filled with plenty of great comedians and fabulous holiday guests. Let’s get right to this week’s late night comedy highlights!
For a lot of people, the holidays involve homecomings, where you head back to your hometown, visit the old haunts and reconnect to where you came from. On Monday, the host of the Daily Show, Trevor Noah heads back to his home-continent. He’ll be returning to his native South Africa to give us a peek into his early life. So if in the past 3 years, you’ve turned on the Daily Show and said, “Hey! That guy’s not Jon Stewart! Who is he!?” Monday night at 11pm on Comedy Central is your chance to find out with “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah “Self-Deportation Edition: a Special Presentation from South Africa.” For all the Fox News lovers who have always wished that Trevor Noah would go back to where he came from- Monday is your lucky day.
Also on Monday, in a non-comedy highlight, fans of Christmas and the holidays will want to check out Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night on NBC. A New York City holiday staple, Rufus Wainwright, will be performing on Late Night. Even if it’s cold outside where you are, this is a performance that will completely warm your soul.
On Tuesday, Seth Meyers keeps the highlights going with a guest appearance from Bill Burr. Seth has found a guest who despite the holidays, won’t be selling peace on Earth. We’re sure something will be pissing Bill off. He was a fixture on the old Conan O’Brien show on TBS and a regular guest on most late night shows, but this will be Bill Burr’s first appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Bill is preparing to go on a huge international tour in 2019 with upcoming dates in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, the U.K., Denmark, Sweden and Amsterdam, to name just some of the country’s that will be feeling Bill Burr’s comedy wrath.
If you like your late night comedy in prime time, Tuesday is for you. Saturday Night Live has put the best of its Christmas themed sketches, digital shorts and cold opens into a 2 hour holiday collection called “A Saturday Night Live Christmas Special.” Get ready to relive one of SNL‘s most well-known Christmas gift ideas, “Dick in a Box,” as well as many others on Tuesday night starting at 9pm on NBC.
Wednesday, watch for a comedy guest who has been making late night audiences laugh since back in the early 80s when he was “The Guy Under the Seats” on the original Late Night with David Letterman on NBC. Chris Elliott will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night to promote his new film, “Clara’s Ghost.” It’s not exactly “his” new film, but it’s definitely his daughter Bridey Elliott’s new film. She wrote and directed it and expertly cast her entire family in this paranormal comedy. “Clara’s Ghost” is about a retired comedian (Chris Elliott) who is living a quieter life in New England with his wife (Bridey’s mother Paula Elliott) and who starts experiencing supernatural events when his daughters (Bridey Elliott and her sister Abby Elliott) come to visit. That has to be a record for the amount of times for using the name “Elliott” in a single sentence. “Clara’s Ghost” opens in limited theatrical release on Friday, December 7th and will also be available on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes on the same day.
We’re pretty excited about Wednesday on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Sam Morril will be performing on Wednesday night on CBS. He recently had a huge appearance on the Tonight Show and CBS must have enjoyed it enough to want to get into the Sam Morril late night business. Watch for Sam on Wednesday night at 12:30am on the Late Late Show.
You know it’s a good week when two-thirds of the hit Riotcast podcast “Keeping Joe” is performing on late night television. Not only do we get Sam Morril on Wednesday night, on Thursday, “Last Comic Standing” break out star and Sam’s podcasting partner, Joe Machi will be performing on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. The Tonight Show has been bringing the best and brightest in stand up comedy to the NBC national stage lately and Joe Machi is no exception. This will be Joe’s Tonight Show debut, be sure not to miss it.
For the third week in a row, we’re promoting Emma Willmann on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Starting two weeks ago, Emma was listed as performing on the Late Show, but wasn’t on that night’s episode. On Twitter, Emma chalked that up to the Late Show having “a timwiggle around the date.” This past Thursday, Emma Willmann was on the Late Show listings again, but apparently Stephen Colbert got chatty with Garth Brooks and again she didn’t appear. This week, Emma is on the guest list for this Thursday on the Late Show. So, let’s just cross our fingers and see what happens.
Finally on Saturday, Fish fans (that’s Fish with an “F”, not a “Ph”), will be excited about this weekend’s new episode of Saturday Night Live. It’s the second of three live SNLs in December and it will be hosted by Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa. Ah, remember the days when an “Aquaman” movie was just a simple comedy plot device for the show “Entourage.”
Here’s hoping you get plenty of late nights this week!
