Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: December 16, 2017

For the winter mid-Season 43 finale, SNL is bringing in a comedy powerhouse tonight when Kevin Hart hosts an all-new Saturday Night Live.

Tonight, Kevin Hart pulls off the SNL Hat Trick. This will be Kevin’s third time hosting the top-rated variety sketch comedy show this evening at 11:30pm on NBC. He’ll be going live tonight to promote his new film “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” which opens in theaters everywhere on Wednesday, December 20th. Besides his film career which includes movies like “Central Intelligence“, “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie“, the “Ride Along” series of films (a third has been announced) and “Get Hard” with Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart is the definition of an international comedy superstar, selling out arenas all over the world, including becoming the first comedian to headline an NFL stadium when he played the Linc in Philadelphia which was documented in the 2016 comedy concert film, “Kevin Hart: What Now?“.

In his previous SNL appearances as host in 2013 and 2015, Kevin Hart has played singer James Brown, fictional rapper “Chocolate Droppa” and oddly enough, he performed in drag as child actress, Quvenzhané Wallis. Kevin also brought his comedy commentary to the Weekend Update news desk in a prior appearance, sitting down with then-anchorman Seth Meyers for a “Really? With Seth & Kevin” segment discussing the U.S. Supreme Court looking at the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

What can we expect on tonight’s new SNL? Kevin’s “Jumanji” co-star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a member in good standing of the Saturday Night Live 5-Timers Club. No reason not to expect him to show up either during the monologue or one of tonight’s sketches. In more of a long shot, but not totally out of the question, would be appearances by other superstar comedians like Dave Chappelle and Amy Schumer. Kevin Hart and Amy were both special guests at one of Dave Chappelle’s Radio City Music Hall shows earlier this year. This would certainly return the favor.

Of course, the onslaught of celebrity men being caught up in the ever-growing sexual misconduct purge should find its way into tonight’s show, one way or another. It will be interesting to see how Kevin Hart would handle this (if at all,) in his monologue considering he was involved in his own sex scandal involving extra-marital indiscretions when he faced down a woman head on, trying to extort money from the comedian in return for her silence. Speaking of sexual misconduct, the story of the week which will most likely be the subject of tonight’s SNL cold open, is Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore’s upset election defeat in Alabama. Expect to see featured cast member Mikey Day back as the Southern politician who was accused of child molestation and was backed in a losing effort by President Trump and his former political adviser Steve Bannon. And of course, this will be the last new episode of Saturday Night Live in 2017, which means there will be plenty of room for any Christmas related sketches and “Year in Review” segments on Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che.

In the promos for tonight’s mid-season finale of Saturday Night Live, Kevin Hart gets in on some selfie action with cast member Aidy Bryant, put to musical guests, the Foo Fighter’s “Monkey Wrench“. In the second set of promos, a pumped-up Kevin hugs it out with cast member Leslie Jones and the Foos, and finally, this week’s host takes fans on a 360° Tour of Studio 8-H, home of Saturday Night Live.

Kevin Hart hosts the final Saturday Night Live of 2017 with musical guests, The Foo Fighters, tonight at 11:30pm on NBC.
