If HBO had to decide on if the network wanted to do a comedy pilot or a comedy special with Whitney Cummings, it came up with the perfect answer, let’s do both. HBO announced that a new pilot is going into production that is being created, written and will star Whitney Cummings. The premium cable channel is also making plans to air a new comedy special from Whitney in 2016.

The pilot is based on New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd’s 2005 hit book “Are Men Necessary? When Sexes Collide”. Deadline describes the series as a look at modern relationships done in a documentary style and includes experts commenting on the characters’ behavior. This is the third television series developed by Whitney Cummings including “Whitney” which she starred in for NBC and “2 Broke Girls” which she created and produces for CBS.

Whitney Cummings has a new comedy special “Whitney Cummings: I Love You” premiering this Summer on Comedy Central on Saturday, June 28th at 11pm et. She’s currently touring to prepare for taping her HBO stand up special this Fall which will air next year.
