The Podcast You Absolutely Have to Listen To: Robert Kelly’s YKWD

“The Podcast You Absolutely Have To Listen To” is a new series where we talk about the  podcasts on the internet you should be checking out.  If you’re living on planet Earth, you already know about the most famous ones– like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, The Nerdist, The Joe Rogan Experience, and Comedy Bang Bang.  But there are literally thousands more and we’re combing through them for you, to let you know which ones you should check out first.

This week, “You Know What Dude!” with Robert Kelly

If you’ve ever wanted to sit at the “Comedian’s Only” table in the main room of The Comedy Cellar, you absolutely have to listen to You Know What Dude! Boston comedian and respected member of the ruthless New York City comedy scene, Robert Kelly allows fans of comedy to listen in on a weekly comedian round table. Expect to hear nothing short of rude comments as a weekly stable of comedians beat up on the people they love most in life. Outsiders beware; the offhanded riffs are as quick as lightning and projected with real conviction.

A master at crowd work, Robert Kelly has created an interesting concept for a podcast. New York City is a breeding ground for funny and Kelly is the curator with each episode of YKWD. Kelly brings a weekly roundtable of hilarious people that bicker and fight like only comedians can. As a listener you can tell that the comedians involved are having a blast each and every episode. Local club heavyweights such as Dan Soder, Craig Mahoney, Kelly Fastuca, Luis J. Gomez and others stand toe to toe while discussing their careers, family and everyday life. Each comedian spits enough venom to keep each hour and a half to two hour episode rolling.

The comedians involved are what make YKWD an exciting concept. The ultimate hang out for hardcore fans of comedy. No punches are pulled, even when non-comedians drop in (like authors or MMA fighters). Whether they are ripping each others voices or the clothes they are wearing or even one comedians confession recently for having a kid nobody previously knew about, no subject is untouchable on You Know What Dude!

If you’ve ever wanted to sit at the “Comedian’s Only” table…. you absolutely have to listen to You Know What Dude!

Released weekly through RiotCast Networks, YKWD is perfect for all fans of the art form. Another added feature- YKWD records on the road seamlessly, allowing listeners to sit in backstage at comedy festivals. Recently Bob Kelly recorded a two hour backstage sit-in at the Jersey City Comedy Festival along with other comics. Being able to hear the backstage bantering is especially great for any up and coming comedians listening in. This particular episode had a revolving door feel as each comedian would leave the discussion to go on stage, while the rest of the group continued discussing why that performer was going to either bomb or kill. Of course each comedian returned to hear their friends rip their act to pieces. Hearing each comedian take their bumps right after leaving the stage is priceless.

Sarcastic impressions and ruthless intent keeps me listening to You Know What Dude. Bob Kelly chooses a great cast of very funny people you may or may not know to sit in and you can tell he cares about putting on a show– not just hearing himself talk. As a big fan of comedy, I’m always finding new performers to listen to through Bob’s podcast. Bob Kelly has a way of really digging his claws into his peers if they whiff on a line, too– Bombs on YKWD can be funnier than some of the well landed punches. Any true fan of comedy will feel right at home. Just don’t expect a line to be drawn anywhere near decency!
