Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins tweeted that his band was offered the end credit song in Shrek before anyone else before the offer was withdrawn and Smash Mouth covered “I’m a Believer” and blew up. Smash Mouth doesn’t agree with this at all and said they said no and Dreamworks kept calling but “If it feeds Billy’s ego to think they were first, let him think that”. Come on Smashing Pumpkins, what’s next? You guys actually wrote the genius lyrics to All Star?

Actually we said no and Michael Austin from Dreamworks kept calling. That went on for over a month. We assume multiple bands we're asked. If it feeds Billy's ego to think they we're first let him think that. Def would have been a darker approach. @THE_EELS are on it & others.
