SiriusXM Canada Announces 18 Semi-Finalists for 8th Annual Top Comic Contest; Voting Opens Today!

SiriusXM Canada has announced the semi-finalists for their 8th annual Top Comic competition! For months, the comedians taking part in SiriusXM Canada’s Top Comic have been toiling away, honing their material and preparing for the next round of battle. Back in April, hundreds of comics entered the yearly competition, and from there the playing field was narrowed down to 60 of the best and brightest competitors. Throughout May and June, those who were chosen took part in a series of audition shows at clubs in Toronto and Vancouver, whittling the contestant’s numbers down even further to only 18. Now, the company has finally revealed which 18 comics survived the quarterfinals and opened up voting to help decide which of the lucky few will be going to the Top Comic finale at JFL42 in September.

Here are the stakes: The 18 remaining comics each have a five to ten minute-long clip of one of their sets posted to the SiriusXM site. Starting today and going until 11:59 p.m. ET August 18th, fans will be able to vote once a day for who they think is the best of the bunch. After the voting ends, eight comics (six chosen by the people, two chosen by judges) will earn the right to compete in the finals at JFL42 in Toronto this September. The prize? $25,000, guaranteed spots at all three Just For Laughs festivals (Just for Laughs in Montreal, JFL42 in Toronto, and JFL NorthWest in Vancouver), a spot on the televised JFL All Access, and of course, the title of Top Comic. The two runners up won’t leave empty handed either, as they’ll be given televised spots at JFL in Montreal and a co-headlining show at JFL42, both in 2018. The finale will take place on September 28th, 2017 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto and will feature a to-be-announced special headliner.

So without further ado, here are your 2017 SiriusXM Canada Top Comic semi-finalists. Remember, voting is open as of today and will extend through August 18th. You can vote once per day, so be sure to check back in and vote for your favorite comic as often as possible by following https://topcomic.siriusxm.ca (this link!)
