Nat Geo Dumps Neil deGrasse Tyson’s ‘StarTalk’

#MeToo knocks another powerful entertainer off his perch. Variety reported on Thursday that National Geographic’s tv channel NatGeo yanked StarTalk off its lineup after performer, podcaster and often comedic astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson was accused of sexual misconduct. The show is not officially cancelled, rather its on hiatus while the network conducts an investigation into the claims made by a former assistant, and a University professor. “In order to allow the investigation to occur unimpeded we chose to hold new episodes of ‘Star Talk’ until it is complete,” a Nat Geo rep told Variety exclusively. “We expect that to happen in the next few weeks at which time we’ll make a final decision.”

StarTalk was in its fifth season with seventeen more episodes scheduled to air.

In the #metoo era, we’re increasingly finding private corporations replacing the the police, investigating alleged bad acts and inflicting punishment, and without the impediments of procedural red tape, due process, rules of evidence and guaranteed rights. Shortcuts can be dangerous, but its not like he’s facing jail. Its only money.

Neil deGrasse Tyson was America’s science sweet heart until he got #metooed. Is that a word yet? Me tooed? No. Then remember you heard it hear first.
