HA! The Musical, a Musical about stand up comedy is coming to New York City! The show will explore the craft of stand up comedy as well as a look behind the scenes. Performances start August 2nd and run through August 8th in a limited engagement. Who could possibly pull off this whirlwind of a musical-comedy hybrid? Look for stars like Big Jay Oakerson (IFC’s Z Rock, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, BET’s Comic View), Christian Finnegan (Chappelle’s Show, VH1’s Best Week Ever), Kevin Farley (Curb Your Enthusiasm, MTV’s 2Gether, brother of the late Chris Farley), Bill Dawes (Lombardi & Bronx Bombers on Broadway), Casey Balsham (Gotham Live) and Shawn Pearlman (Comedy Bang Bang) to grace the stage.

With direction from Broadway’s Darren Katz (currently Resident Director of The Lion King), HA! The Musical (sporting the tagline, “A musical about stand-ups with stand-ups”) explores the often seedy and always hilarious personalities of standup comedians while delving into what happens after the curtains close and the club lights turn on. HA! The Musical promises to bring many comedy archetypes to the stage through the art of song and dance. An interesting concept to pursue and one that has yet to be displayed as such on stage with actual touring comedians and comedic actors singing and dancing.

One of the stars, stand up comedian Big Jay Oakerson, talked about the musical during an appearance on The Ron and Fez Show in June. All he knew at the time was, he’ll be playing a crowd work guy, and he will be outside of his comfort zone. Not much information has been given out so far about who will be singing, what kind of songs will be in the show, and whether dancing will be involved, but we have to imagine with Big Jay involved, it’s going to be something you won’t want to miss. And as you might expect, the show is 21+ only. You can hear Big Jay talking about the show below.

Show producer(s) Eileen Cope/NYLA Entertainment along with general manager Eva Price and music director Julie McBride bring the musical to the coveted Stage 72 @ Triad Theater (158 West 72nd Street) next month in New York City. A perfect opportunity to see your favorite comedic actors and standup personalities perform under a whole new arena! You’ve got to see this.

Tickets can be found at www.HATheMusical.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Tickets will be $20 plus a two-drink minimum once inside. The show is 21+ only.
