Margaret Thatcher (1925 – 2013)

thatcher-35-horizontal-galleryFormer British Prime Minister of England, Margaret Thatcher has died after suffering a stroke at age 87. The leader of her country’s conservative party. Thatcher became Great Britain’s first and only so far, woman prime minister in 1979 and served till 1990.

She was so tough on stopping communist aggression while working with President Ronald Reagan, that it was the Soviet Union that nicked named Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady”.  A name that would follow her the rest of her life.

Thatcher became a divisive figure in Britain with her policies of absolute nationalism, battling to break the country’s work unions and saying “There is no such thing as society” while promoting individualism over the needs of the masses.

Of course, her greatest achievement will be setting the standard for women being seen in leadership roles and becoming the most powerful woman in the world during the 1980s.
