Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of February 26, 2018

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

The Winter Olympics are over and after a month of disrupted late night talk shows, just about everyone is back to work. That includes Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers who were pre-empted for the better part of the month due to NBC’s Olympic coverage. The only late night talker not working this week is Jimmy Kimmel. He has the week off for two reasons. First, he was the only host giving us new shows and fresh late night comedy while everyone was slacking during the Winter Games and secondly, he has his own version of the Olympics coming up this Sunday- the 90th annual Academy Awards which Jimmy K will be hosting again this year. Expect a lot of jokes about the wrong name being in an envelope. Let’s go over some highlights for this week in late night comedy.

On Monday, Conan O’Brien is back after two weeks off and he’s coming back with comedy gangbusters. For his first show back, he’s has the modern-day comedy team of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney. K & M are hosting the 33rd Film Independent Spirit Awards on IFC on Saturday. Even if you’re not into independent film (which sounds crazy to say), it’s worth tuning in to the Spirit Awards just for Kroll & Mulaney’s opening which if last year is any indication, will be fall-down funny again. As if that wasn’t enough comedy from Team Coco on Monday, Conan also has the fabulously funny Canadian comic Debra DiGiovanni booked to perform. She was a home-country favorite at a lot of the shows at Just for Laughs last year in Montreal. The comedy continues later into late night when James Corden welcomes Steve Harvey to the Late Late Show along with a stand-up performance from Nate Fernald.

Tuesday watch for stand up comedy from Alex Edelman on Conan. Alex is a comic out of Boston who quickly became an annual sensation in Europe at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2014, winning the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer. He was also named by our friend Bert Haas, the manager at Zanies Comedy Club in Chicago, as one of his favorite comedians to perform at his clubs last year.

Wednesday is a night you don’t want to miss on the Late Show. In fact, set your DVRs now. It’s the return of Sebastian Maniscalco to Stephen Colbert’s stage. Sebastian is killer when he’s on Colbert and we have every reason to believe that this will be another lights-out stand up performance. Also on Wednesday, watch for Zach Galifianakis on Conan who has become a late night favorite no matter who’s show he’s appearing on that night.

Thursday, one of our favorite imported comedians is appearing on Conan. Gad Elmaleh, the French comic who has conquered Europe and learned English to move to New York City in order to do it again in America, will be appearing on the Conan O’Brien late night get-together. Gad has had two Netflix specials in the past year with “Gad Gone Wild” and “Gad Elmaleh: American Dream,” both of which document his journey to the States in hysterical fashion. Also on Thursday night, if you love funny kids, be sure to watch the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to meet JJ Totah.  16 year old JJ is the star of the upcoming NBC sitcom “Champions” premiering in May and this kid is a laugh riot. This series is so loaded with funny people, it should be a guaranteed success. It also stars Mindy Kaling, Anders Holm (Workaholics,) Yassir Lester and the hilarious Fortune Feimster. However, Thursday is your chance to see the teen who’s going to steal the show from these seasoned comedians, JJ Totah.

This weekend, there’s plenty of funny to fill your Saturday and Sunday. Earlier we mentioned it’s Awards Weekend with Nick Kroll and John Mulaney hosting the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon and Jimmy Kimmel hosting the Oscars on Sunday night, but this weekend is also the return of Saturday Night Live which has been on hiatus due to the Winter Olympics. SNL is back this Saturday with Charles Barkley hosting for the 4th time. Enjoy all your returning comedy this week.
