LIVE COMEDY THURSDAY 7/20

Show: Gilbert Gottfried
Venue: Carolines on Broadway
Location:
1626 Broadway NYC
Time: 7:30pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

At the young age of 15, Gilbert Gottfried began doing stand-up at open mike nights in New York City, after a few short years, became known around town as “the comedian’s comedian.” After spending several years mastering the art of stand-up comedy, producers of the legendary NBC late night comedy show Saturday Night Live became aware of Gottfried and, in 1980, hired him as a cast member. It wasn’t until a few years later when his true notoriety would begin when MTV hired him for a series of improvised and hilarious promos for the newly formed channel. This led to several television appearances on “The Cosby Show” and “Late Night with David Letterman.”

Gottfried’s work in television soon led to roles in film. Most notable was his improvised scene as business manager Sidney Bernstein in the hit sequel “Beverly Hills Cop II,” for which the New York Daily News said, “Gilbert Gottfried steals the picture with a single scene.” Aside from his glowing reputation in comedy clubs, Gottfried began to gain a reputation as the king of quirky roles in both movies and television. He appeared in such movies as “Problem Child,” “Problem Child II,” “Look Who’s Talking II” and “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane.” He was also the host of the very popular late night movie series “USA Up All Night.”

After his stellar performance as the wise cracking parrot, IAGO, in the Disney classic “Aladdin,” Gottfried became one of the most recognizable voiceover talents, lending his voice to several commercials, cartoons and movies, including the frustrated duck in the AFLAC Insurance commercials. Gottfried also is the voice of DIGIT in the long running PBS Series “Cyberchase.” His signature voice can also be heard on the Comedy Central series, “The Annoying Orange, the voice of the horse on “Family Guy,” Mr. Mxyzptlk in the new “Lego Batman 3 – Beyond Gotham” video game, and Abraham Lincoln in A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Gottfried has made numerous memorable appearances on Comedy Central Roasts and the Comedy Central series, “The Burn with Jeff Ross.” Gottfried’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” reading (College Humor) received over 5 million views on YouTube .

Gilbert has been a guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with Seth Meyers”, “@Midnight with Chris Hardwick” and numerous appearances on “The Howard Stern Show.” He also has had a recurring role on “Law and Order” SVU as TARU tech Leo Gerber.

Gottfried appeared in the hit comedy documentary “The Aristocrats,” with Entertainment Weekly saying that “out of the 101 comedians who appear on screen, no one is funnier – or more disgusting – than Gilbert Gottfried.”

In addition, Gottfried, a classic movie lover, was a guest Programmer on TCM. He mock-complained to TCM host Robert Osborne that choosing only four films out of all those available was “the worst homework assignment ever!”

“Gilbert Gottfried Dirty Jokes” was released on both DVD and CD, featuring 50 non-stop minutes of Gottfried telling the funniest and filthiest jokes ever. The show was filmed live at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. Also featured on the DVD are some of the funniest bonus features ever, including wild stories, indignant ranting and celebrity impressions.

Rubber Balls and Liquor is Gilbert Gottfried’s hilarious first-ever book. Part memoir, part twisted social commentary, and part scratches on the bathroom wall. With this scathingly funny book of rants and musings, Gottfried sullies an entirely new medium with his dysfunctional worldview.

Oh, and did we mention the reality shows and podcast? Gilbert appeared on both ABC’s “Celebrity Wife Swap”, swapping with Alan Thicke, and NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” where Gilbert took his first trip into the boardroom and perhaps his last. And the podcast…”Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!” where Gilbert journeys back in time with some of the Hollywood icons, legends, and behind the scenes talent who shaped (warped?) his childhood and influenced his unique brand of comedy. He is joined each week by his co-host and late night phone friend, fellow showbiz fanatic, and Comedy Writer Frank Santopadre.

In 2017, “Gilbert” the documentary about Gilbert Gottfried premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Director Neil Berkeley’s Gilbert reveals an unexpected side to the iconic comedian. The film peeks behind the larger-than-life persona at a more personal story about growing up in Brooklyn and becoming a husband and father late in life. “Gilbert” premieres on Hulu, fall 2017.

As a famed comics comic, Gottfried puts aside political correctness for his live performance and fires an onslaught of jokes that know no boundaries.

Stephen King on Gilbert Gottfried: “More than a national treasure, he’s a secret weapon. If we had had Gilbert Gottfried in World War II, Hitler would have given up in 1942.

Gilbert, a lifelong resident of NYC is married with 2 children and has never had a driver’s license.

Show: Mo Amer’s “No Fly Zone”
Venue: The Gramercy Theater
Location:
123 23rd Street NYC
Time: 8pm
Description of Show and Lineup:
Featuring Musical Guests Brother Ali & Narcy
Surprise Secret Special Guest!
A pioneer of Arab-American standup, Mo has already cemented his stature as an original voice in comedy. In addition to touring with Dave Chappelle, Mo made international headlines when a chance airline upgrade landed him seated next to Eric Trump just weeks after the 2016 Presidential Election. The story of an Arab-American Muslim immigrant sitting and chatting with the POTUS’ son–at a time of heightened cultural tension in America–went super viral.

Mo’s standup makes controversial news headlines personal. Part improvisation, part memoir, Mo humor reveals his life’s circuitous route, including how he managed to travel the world without a passport for two decades, was held at gunpoint by an American soldier in Iraq, and once had Bradley Cooper (unintentionally) save his life in the Middle East. Mo has performed in over two dozen countries on five continents––including as the first and only Arab-American refugee comic to perform for U.S. and coalition troops overseas.

Mo has had numerous television appearances including Comedy Central’s @midnight and recently made his late night debut on CBS’s Late Night with Stephen Colbert. He’s also appeared on Bassem Youssef’s ‘Al-Bernameg’ (The Daily Show of Egypt) and served as co-host of Comedy Central Presents (CC Arabia). Mo has been interviewed by over 100 major world media publications including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian. He was also recently listed in Rolling Stone’s 2017 “Comedians You Should Know”.

Mo has an original sitcom in development (based on his standup) and plans to record his first one-hour standup special for television at the end of this 2017.

Show: Monroe Martin
Venue: The Stand NYC
Location:
239 3rd Avenue NYC
Time: 10pm
Description of Show and Lineup:
Join Monroe Martin for an hour long set from one of the top rising stars in comedy
Monroe Martin is a colorful and imaginative comedian with a lifetime of hard knock experiences that have been spun into side-splitting jokes and stories.

Monroe was born and raised in Philadelphia, one usually wouldn’t find Monroe’s life story laughable. After all, how inappropriate is it to laugh at a foster child who jumped around from one dysfunctional family to another? Sit in the audience of one of Monroe’s performances and you’ll find yourself laughing at his adversity. Monroe’s honest and open approach to joke and storytelling universalizes his experiences. Monroe’s creative and charismatic comedic voice has created a buzz within the New York comedy circuit. His intelligent and hysterical perspective resonates and has earned him respect among his peers.

Monroe is on his way to becoming the type of comedian he admires—one who says exactly what he wants, the way he wants to say it. He idolizes these types of comedians because he realizes that it takes guts to say how you truly feel whether it be right or wrong. It is especially hard to discuss the topics that are considered taboo and/or controversial. By saying what he wants, how he wants, Monroe is creating his legacy of being one of the funniest comedians in America.

Monroe says “All good comedians speak of life experience through their own unique perspectives.” Based on his experience, He has the makings of a great comedian, and is well on his way. You’ve seen Monroe in the current season of Last Comic Standing. He can also be seen on the upcoming season of Adam Devine’s House Party on Comedy Central. Monroe has also been featured on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. For on Monroe log onto www.monroemartincomedy.com or follow him on twitter @monroemartinIII

Show: Judah Friedlander Headline
Venue: Comedy Cellar at The Village Underground
Location:
130 W. 3rd Street NYC
Time: 8pm
Description of Show and Lineup:
On the comedy stage, Judah Friedlander is The World Champion. He is the best athlete in the world, greatest martial artist, the sexual desire of every woman, and a role model to children. Let’s face it, Judah is the greatest comedian in the world… And the most humble. Judah is an extra-dark blackbelt in karate. Judah is known to comics & audiences as one of the funniest and most original stand-up comedians. Seeing Judah perform live is always a unique experience. He always has new jokes & he plays off the audience making up jokes on the spot. You will never see Judah do the same show twice. Because Judah is so awesome, he’s also one of the most copied comedians. But a copy is never as good as the original. And no one can top The World Champion. Judah started doing stand-up in 1989 and has been doing it just about every night ever since. Even though Judah has made over 30 movies & appeared in hundreds of TV shows – stand-up comedy is Judah’s priority and specialty. He is not an actor who does stand-up on the side. He’s a stand-up comedian who acts on the side. You can watch Judah as “Frank Rossitano” on the Emmy-winning “30 Rock” every night in syndication & on Comedy Central, as well as in new episodes every Thursday night on NBC. Judah has made multiple hilarious appearances on many late night talk shows including: Letterman, Conan, Fallon & The Daily Show. Judah was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2003 Independent Spirit Awards for his role in the Sundance-winning “American Splendor”. Some of his other movies include “Meet the Parents”, “Wet Hot American Summer”, “Feast”, “Zoolander”, and “The Wrestler”. Judah’s hilarious instructional karate book “How To Beat Up Anybody” is based on his stand-up act, but with all brand new material. He sells & signs it after shows. Judah does meet & greets after every show. Judah does not charge for photos. So, you don’t have to ask Judah if it’s ok to take a photo – you can take one with him, and it’ll be the sexiest photo you’ve ever seen.

Show: Ask me Another
Venue: The Bell House
Location:
149 7th Street Brooklyn
Time: 7:30pm
Description of Show and Lineup:
Puzzlemaster Will Shortz and Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! host Peter Sagal walk into a bar… No, it’s not the start of a joke. It’s the essence of Ask Me Another, a rambunctious hour that blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music. Host  Ophira Eisenberg invites in-studio guests and listeners alike to stretch their noggins, tickle their funny bones, and enjoy witty banter and guitar riffs from house musician  Jonathan Coulton.

For an hour, listeners can play along as Eisenberg puts questions to a rotating band of puzzle gurus, audience members and special mystery guests, who then takes a turn in the contestant’s chair facing trivia games written especially for him or her. What you’ll hear resembles the casual intimacy of game night at a friend’s house: one where scores are forgotten in favor of hilarious gaffes.

Ask Me Another is recorded live at The Bell House in Brooklyn, NY.
Ask Me Another is a co-production of NPR and WNYC.
