FX CEO Says Network Will Move Forward on ‘Better Things Without’ Louis C.K.

FX’s CEO John Landgraf confirmed that the FX series that Louis C.K. co-created with Pamela Adlon will continue on at FX, but without Louis C.K. The outstanding series (which won our readers poll award for best comedy television series of 2017) had already been picked up for a third season before a New York Times article exposed Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct. C.K. was not only co-creator of the show and producer, he also co-wrote with Adlon and directed in season one, so when FX announced they were cutting all ties with Louis, there were unanswered questions about whether or not Better Things would return.

Today, Landgraf confirmed that Adlon will continue, and she will continue without her writing partner. “This is Pamela’s show,” he told reporters. “These are her stories, her life. Louis was her co-writer and she’s going to have to write them (episodes) all her herself or find another co-writer. She’s the font, the creative engine of that show. He won’t be involved further in any FX shows including Better Things, I have every confidence in Pamela.”

Landgraf also confirmed that they investigated C.K.’s tenure at the network and found no complaints of any kind during the eight year partnership with the Network. Despite finding no impropriety, FX has no plans to work with Louis again in the near future, claiming that bigger societal issues dictate that they part ways with the comedian, at least for now. “This is a cultural movement,” said Landgraf and described their position as “in a wait and see mode.”
