Comedy Central announcements just keep coming today including the list of hour comedy specials greenlit by the network.

If you read this site regularly then you are already very aware that two of our favorite New York comics taped comedy specials in 2016.  Big Jay Oakerson was a bona fide rock star at his taping at Webster Hall in February.  The metal vibe was in full force and Oakerson go into some very not safe for work topics. The special will be titled Big Jay Oakerson Live From Webster Hall.  We’ve heard nothing but raves about Dan Soder’s special which was taped at the historic Trocadero Theater in Philly.  He’s calling it Dan Soder: Not Special and don’t be misled by the title.  Soder is another giant unique talent in New York City and its fitting that they both have specials out this year in New York City, since they co-host SiriusXM’s The Bonfire and are great friends.

Another New Yorker getting his first hour special is SNL’s Pete Davidson. He hasn’t shot his special yet.  That’s going down at the NYC Skirball Center on April 30th.  Three more as of yet untitled and to be recorded specials will go to Kurt Braunohler, who we assume will find a way to make his special unconventional and exciting, and Joe DeRosa, both will record their debut specials in the fall,  and Trevor Moore who will combine music and sketch for his second one hour special.

Angie Tribeca’s Deon Cole just recorded his first hour special at Washington D.C.’s Lincoln Theater.  Cole is also a co-star of Blackish and a writer for Conan. Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper has also taped a one hour special that will debut this year.

And finally, one of the hottest festival shows in the country right now is getting an hour on television. The Goddamn Comedy Jam Special will air on Comedy Central bringing Josh Adam Meyers’ frenzied stage show to a coast to coast (and then some) audience.  A GDCJ show is an experience like none other. It’s comedy plus live band karaoke as a base point. The comedians perform a stand up set, and then with the backing of the GDCJ Band they sing a song but it goes way beyond comedy karaoke. Seeing your favorite comics live out their dream of what life would have been like if they went the rock star route– singing on stage backed by a live band in front of screaming fans– is a blast. Enthusiastic participation from some comedy giants in the stage version of the show have really helped the show to take off, most notably Bill Burr who takes the stage in character and gets behind the drum kit after his stand up.

Congratulations to everyone greenlit for this year.  It’s a hell of a line up.
