David Spade paid tribute to his sister-in-law Kate Spade by donating $100,000 in her honor to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  “More people suffer from mental health issues than we may realize but no one should ever feel ashamed to reach out for support,” Spade told People Magazine, adding, “If you or anyone you know is in need of help or guidance please contact the national suicide prevention hotline at 800-273-8255 or go to nami.org to learn more and help those who may be in need.”

Kate Spade committed suicide on June 5 after a long struggle with mental illness and depression. She was married to the comedian’s brother, Andy.  After her death, longtime fans of her brand were shocked to learn that she had suffered from both depression and anxiety, and had been ashamed to seek help for her condition for many years.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
