Craig Ferguson Says Mick Jagger is Afraid of Keith Richards in New Hour Special Premiering This Week on EPIX

Craig Ferguson is back! No, not on Late Night, but with an brand new hour special premiering on EPIX this week, “Craig Ferguson: Just Being Honest.” Actually, it’s a little more than an hour, Craig has a lot to talk about since he wrapped his last episode with the Late Late Show in December.

During the special Craig does some familiar monologue type material that will make you miss having Craig at the helm of the Late Late Show, and he tells plenty of  jokes, but where Craig really shines is his long, funny stories and you’ll be treated to a few of those.

In one of his stories he proclaims that all these years that he thought Mick was in charge of the Rolling Stones, he was wrong.  It’s not Mick’s band, he says, it is emphatically, and decisively Keith Richard’s band. And he ought to know because he spent a year touring with his childhood heroes.

“Like everyone else, I thought the Rolling Stones was Mick Jagger and Keith Richard’s band or maybe it was Mick Jagger’s band but it’s not,” Ferguson says in the special. “It’s Keith Richard’s band, Keith Richards runs that shit, Mick Jagger is the singer in Keith Richard’s band.”

Not only is it Keith’s band, but he also says everyone is afraid Keith Richards, because he’s so tough, including Mick Jagger. Ferguson tells several revealing stories about his time with the Stones; he got to tour with the band when he almost wrote a screenplay for a movie with Mick Jagger. He discovered everyone was frightened of Keith when he tried to get permission to stand on the stage during a show, and Mick told him no, because Keith wouldn’t like it.  Some people don’t tour and tell, but Ferguson is not one of those people.

Craig recorded the special in March at New York City’s Town Hall Theater as part of his Hot and Grumpy Tour.  You can hear Ferguson tell all his Stones stories, as well as tackling religion, sobriety, Kenny G and how to make the best use of melons when  “Craig Ferguson: Just Being Honest” premieres this  Thursday, September 10 at 10PM ET/ PT, 9C on EPIX.

Here’s a previously released clip of Craig talking about his first phone call with Mick Jagger.
