[one_half_last]Joe Webb

One great collage artist is Joe Webb. His art emulates a feeling that’s part 1950’s romance and half space-y sci-fi, and he captures a sweet sadness in many of his collages. His work looks computer edited, but it’s actually handmade.

David Thorpe’s work is made up of painstakingly intricate paper cuttings (check out the trees in the collage). His work has a subtle ancient Japanese influence that’s more obvious in his mixed media installations.

[one_half_last]Morgan Jesse Lappin

The best part about Morgan Jesse Lappin’s work is his ability to tell a story. His art is technically masterful, but is unpretentious and contains elements of life that everyone can relate to. Some of his work is also very funny, in a kitschy, offbeat kind of way.

Beth Hoeckel

Beth Hoeckel’s best body of work is called “Point of View,” and is a collection of collages showing people watching things. It sounds simple enough, but she manages to drop found images of people in photos and make them seem like they were there originally.

Becky Comber

Becky Comber is an artist who’s work highlights distance and depth of space. Her images feel like they’re occurring in a dimension between 2- and 3-D, and seem to capture nature’s simultaneous stillness and movement.

Randy Grskovic

Randy Grskovic’s strength lies in communicating something to the viewer using the gap between combined images. He also has an awesome collection of work that is made of chopped up Polaroid photos that explore documentation of memories that has been destroyed.

Shannon Rankin

Shannon Rankin makes her art out of maps– they’re a little bit sculpture-y and have texture like the terrain they are meant to represent. She also says that her art is meant to make people think about our relationship to the earth represented by maps, and our relationship to each other.
