Chris DiStefano, Ron Funches, James Davis, Roy Wood Jr. Will Release Hour Specials in January for Comedy Central

January is stand up month on Comedy Central, celebrating the stand up special in all its glory. Every Friday Comedy Central will air a brand new hour special on Fridays at 11pm.

Ron Funches, James Davis, Chris Distefano and Roy Wood Jr. all have new hours to debut on the network, kicking the hour long fun on January 4th with Ron Funches: Giggle Fit. James Davis will follow on January 11th with “Live From the Town.” Chris Distefano will put out his first hour special on January 18th, titled “Size 38 Waist.” And Roy Wood Jr. brings it all home with his latest, “No One Loves You” on January 25.

After making a dramatic wrestling inspired entrance, Ron Funches delivers a positive toned hour about all the things he loves and enjoys, like vision boarding, losing weight, parenting his autistic son, TV, and yes, wrestling. Filmed at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle, Ron Funches: Giggle Fit debuts on January 4th.

On January 11th, check back in for James Davis: Live From The Town– a raucous hour of comedy that puts Davis’s stage presence and crowd engagement on full display. You will see Barack Obama as a party DJ, James alter ego “Barbecue”, dissections of social topics and “pimp uncles.” Davis filmed the hour at the New Parish Theatre in Oakland, CA.

Chris Distefano delivers his hour, “Size 38 Waist” on January 18th. He kicks off the hour with a guest appearance featuring Chazz Palminteri and then proceeds to lay down hilarious and personal hour talking about his fast-gentrifying home borough, fatherhood, and his own open-minded outlook despite a conservative upbringing. At once a charmer and the product of a grittier New York, Distefano examines Brooklyns new and old with a mindset similarly caught in between. Recorded in Brooklyn at Roulette Intermedium,

Ending stand up month is Roy Wood Jr. with “No One Loves You” on January 25th. It’s the second hour Wood performed for CC, and he recorded at Chicago’s famed Vic Theater. We get to see Roy explore some of today’s most complicated issues, from the plight of the black superhero and national anthem protests to the many failed strategies men have used to avoid #MeToo allegations, Roy covers them all.

The four hour specials are only one part of Comedy Central’s focus on stand up in January.

Comedy Central is also debuting a brand new digital series on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Watch, and Instagram called “Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring.” Kicking off on January 8th the series will spotlight a new young comedian every Tuesday and Thursday. The first round was recorded in Brooklyn at Littlefield, and will feature some of our favorite young comics like Petey DeAbreau, Ian Lara, Dina Hashem, Stavros Halkias, Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Yedoye Travis, Tom Thakkar, Marie Faustin, Ryan Beck, Martin Urbando, Chris Cotton, Clare O’Kane, and Natasha Vaynblat.

Twelve half hour specials were also announced for 2019, including ten as part of their long running half hour special series, Comedy Central Presents, and two additional half hours that will fall under the Amy Schumer Presents moniker. Read more on that here.
