The dermatologist to the stars Dr. Fredric Brandt was found dead in his Miami, Florida mansion on Sunday. According the Daily Mail, the man who had celebrity clients including Madonna and supermodel Stephanie Seymour, committed suicide by hanging himself. There’s speculation that the Netflix series, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is part of the story.
The Daily Mail reported that Dr. Brandt’s publicist Jacquie Tractenberg didn’t give a full explanation of the circumstances, only saying that the dermatologist’s death came after a illness. The paper also said that Miami Herald columnist Lesley Abravanel found out that the long time illness was depression.
Abravanel also tweeted that Fredric Brandt was “devastated” because he was being compared to a character played by Martin Short on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”. On the series, Martin Short played Dr Franff in one episode of the Netflix sitcom. The character is a plastic surgery specialist whose own appearance has been drastically altered because of too many procedures. Martin Short’s character and Dr. Brandt shared very similar qualities including smooth skin and platinum blonde hair. However, the character’s face was so devastated from medical work that he could no longer use his mouth properly to speak.
Dr. Fredric Brandt also hosted a radio series on SiriusXM called “Ask Dr. Brandt”, which aired on the SiriusXM Stars channel.
