“This Is America” Debuts at Number On on Billboard Hot 100

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino has dethroned Drake from a 15 week run at the top of the Billboard charts. His first new single This Is America debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

This is America is Glover’s first #1 single (he previously had a No. 12 high with “Redbone”) and was on top as both the most streamed and the most purchased single of the week.

Glover aka Gambino performed the song on Saturday Night Live last Saturday (May 5).

Here’s the deets: the song received 65.3 million U.S. streams for its opening week, and 78,000 downloads sold with a 9.4 million radio airplay audience. Gambino also entered the Rap Airplay chart at number 20. In the history of Billboard’s Hot 100 history, only 31 songs have had a debut in the top slot.

Should we get ready for Drake’s revenge with his new scripted FX series Toronto?
