Wyatt Cenac to Host New Late-Night Docu-Series on HBO

It looks like Wyatt Cenac (The Daily Show) has a new project lined up now that he’s done with his Seeso series Night Train with Wyatt Cenac. HBO’s executive vice president of programming Nina Rosenstein announced today that Cenac will be the host of a new current events docu-series on the network, set to debut in the spring of 2018.

The as-yet-unnamed show has a powerhouse team behind it that includes writers from both The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Cenac will executive produce alongside John Oliver, Ezra Edelman (O.J.: Made in America), Diane Fitzgerald (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) and Hallie Haglund (The Daily Show), who will also serve as head writer for the series.

The show will depict Cenac out in the field taking a satirical look at current social and cultural issues, using his unique perspective and biting wit to explore some of the biggest issues in American culture today in an attempt to come up with actionable solutions.

“While my initial ask to play one of Molly’s love interests on Insecure was rejected, this is a nice consolation,” says Cenac. “My thanks to Nina, Casey Bloys and everyone at HBO for finally giving me a place where I can comfortably swear on television.”

Cenac is a comic and writer best known for his years of contributions as both a writer and correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He’s also played various TV roles as of late, including hosting the Seeso comedy showcase show Night Train with Wyatt Cenac and starring on the popular TBS comedy People of Earth.
