Woody Allen “Television Series” Coming Exclusively to Amazon Prime

Sony Pictures Classics and Dolce & Gabbana Present the New York Premiere of "Magic in the Moonlight"

In another big move by a digital studio, Amazon Studios has signed Woody Allen to write and direct his first ever television series, coming exclusively to Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service. Untitled Woody Allen Project, a half-hour series, has received a full season order and episodes will be written and directed by Allen. No other details have been released yet.

Vice President of Amazon Studios Roy Price said, “Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series.” He added, “From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”

Woody Allen added, “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”

Earlier this year it was announced that Allen would be working with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone on his next movie. Coincidentally that project is also called “Untitled Woody Allen Project.”

Amazon has been making its own waves, grabbing huge media attention and a lot of critical love for its Amazon Original comedy “Transparent” which stars Jeffrey Tambor.  “Transparent” and Amazon made history at this years Golden Globes when both Transparent and Tambor won their respective categories for best TV series, musical or comedy and best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy,  becoming the first digital series to win a major award at the Globes.
