Who’s Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: June 25, 2016

Tonight, Saturday Night Live is not live, but that doesn’t mean you can’t tune in.  SNL will be re-running an episode from earlier this season tonight, with guest host Matthew McConaughey. The episode originally aired on November 21, 2015, and served as this season’s Thanksgiving-themed episode, so put some turkey on the grill and celebrate Thanksgiving in June this year. Joining McConaughey for episode six was musical guest Adele.

This wasn’t McConaughey’s first time hosting, but it’s been 14 years since the last time he hosted in 2003.

During his opening monologue, McConaughey shared the origin story of his “launchpad line” from Dazed and Confused, as well as the infamous phrase that has followed him his entire career, “alright, alright, alright.” Turns out it’s also the origin story of his entire career as an actor.  You’ll also want to tune in for another round of Star Wars screen tests, this time with Daisy Ridley, Shaq, Javier Bardem, John Boyega, Dame Maggie Smith, Emma Stone, Wynona Judd, David Beckham and John Mayer and more reading for roles, but stick around for Chris Tucker and Danny Devito auditions.

The highlight of the episode was a Thanksgiving dinner digital sketch about all the minefields waiting for you at your family holiday table. Your uncle’s thoughts about banning refugees, your brother’s opinion on gun laws, your parents’ questions about that ‘friend’ who comes home for the holidays with you ever year, and that job that your grandfather thinks isn’t a real job. SNL has a solution to all those minefields- don’t fight on Thanksgiving- Adele instead. The sketch starred Beck Bennett, Jay Pharoah, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Matthew McConaughey, Kate McKinnon, and Vanessa Bayer.

Other great moments to watch out for include Keenan Thompson’s Big Papi/David Ortiz impression,

SNL returns live this fall for season 42.
