Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: June 10, 2017

Saturday Night Live ended their season 42 run a few weeks ago, so there’s no live episode tonight. But NBC knows you’d rather watch a repeat episode of SNL than anything else on Saturday Nights, so tonight you can rewatch an episode hosted by NBC’s king of late night, Jimmy Fallon.

The episode originally aired on April 15, 2017, and marked Fallon’s third time hosting the show, but of course he was a full-time (and favorite) cast member from 1998 to 2004 and he’s made plenty of cameo appearances since then. Fallon last hosted in 2013 right before he took over the Tonight Show, and he is a gigantic SNL success story with plenty of beloved characters, impressions, and a seemingly permanent place in Lorne Michaels empire.

The episode was all about fun- in true Jimmy Fallon fashion. “Tonight is bigger than a show,” he said, “It’s a party,” Fallon declared. Critics loved the high energy party vibe created in Fallon’s monologue. We found it confusing but there’s no doubt it’s a party with flash mobs dancers, and tumblers galore. The focus moved away from politics for most of the night although Fallon did appear as Jared Kushner in a Trump-themed cold open. Melissa McCarthy brought the show’s highlight appearance again as Sean Spicer, displaying what SNL can and should be when it’s at its best. “Civil War Solider”- our second favorite moment of the night, wasn’t political- it was however musical, and a perfect combination of Fallon being Fallon, and SNL being funny. A Celebrity Family Feud features Fallon in a dual role as John Travolta in different decades, and you will love watching Jimmy run back and forth, not always making it on time to switch characters, and Rachel Dratch makes a guest appearance to bring back fan favorite Boston characters Sully and Denise.

Pay special attention to Weekend Update- which this season we declared both the strongest and weakest part of the show. Che and Jost are writing strong jokes, and have great chemistry, but the segment’s format is in dire need of a facelift, and the Weekend Update characters continue to represent the lowest the show goes- pandering, repetitive but more importantly- not funny.

Overall, Fallon helmed a decent show, but not a stand out show. Musical guest Harry Styles performs.

SNL airs at 11:30pm tonight only on NBC, and stay tuned for announcements about when SNL will return in the fall, new castmembers, more departing castmembers, and whether we’ll see any Weekend Update prime time segments this summer.
