Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: December 2, 2017

Tonight! Live from New York, it’s a very hard name to pronounce, as Saoirse Ronan hosts an all new Saturday Night Live!

Let’s go ahead and put Saoirse Ronan in that category of celebrities whose names get mangled when we’re first introduced to them, but eventually go on to become the “household” variety of name, like Kardashian, Favre and Galifianakis. Just ask John Travolta about Idina Menzel.

Tonight’s first time SNL host was born in The Bronx, but left the states when she was only three and was raised in Ireland. This makes tonight’s brand new SNL an all-Irish affair when Saoirse Ronan is joined by musical guest U2 known for their legendary Saturday Night Live appearances. U2 will be promoting the band’s new album, “Songs of Experience” while Saoirse is appearing on SNL to spread the word about her new film “Lady Bird“.

The independent dramedy “Lady Bird” has taken Hollywood by storm since its release. Right now, the movie has full-on Oscar buzz for Best Picture as well as for Best Actor in a Female Lead for Saoirse Ronan. In “Lady Bird“, Saoirse plays a high school student living in Sacramento in 2002 who has a tenuous relationship with her mom played by Laurie Metcalf (more Oscar buzz!) and it’s directed and written by Greta Gerwig. “Lady Bird” has received the best score ever on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% certified fresh score in an all-time high 165 reviews. It’s also been nominated for four Film Independent Spirit Awards, which will be presented early next year. So, it’s likely that tonight, SNL will have a sketch involving high school students, especially since earlier this week, Saoirse Ronan told Seth Meyers that she prepared for the role of an American teenager by watching episodes of “Saved by the Bell“.

Another massive story we expect Saturday Night Live to cover, parody and ridicule comes from the sketch-variety series’ own network, NBC. At the very least Weekend Update should make mention of NBC’s own Matt Lauer getting canned by the Today Show for sexual misconduct. It will be fun to watch how far SNL will go to skewer a fellow NBC series and colleague tonight.

Also, it’s been awhile since Alec Baldwin has brought our embattled President to life on the stages of Studio 8-H. So this week with President Trump facing another backlash for his anti-Muslim tweets which turned out to be fake news and his former National Security Adviser, General Mike Flynn ready to sing for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, it feels like we’re due for a visit from Baldwin’s Trump. Besides, it would be hard to imagine Baldwin, the Irish-Catholic SNL regular from Long Island, New York, missing a live U2 performance, which hopefully includes the band doing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” to welcome in the holiday season.

In the promos for tonight’s new Saturday Night Live, Saoirse Ronan is joined by cast member Cecily Strong looking over Rockefeller Center Plaza from high up in the offices of the GE Building. Saoirse appreciates the thousands that have gather below to greet her, while Cecily points out that they may be there for another reason including watching that giant Rockefeller Center Christmas tree being lit up. In the second set, Saoirse, U2 and Kenan Thompson try to figure out each other’s exotic accents.

Saturday Night Live is all new and live across all time zones tonight with host Saoirse Ronan with musical guest U2 at 11:30pm on NBC.

SNL is also live for the next two weeks as well with host James Franco on Saturday, December 9th and comedy superstar Kevin Hart hosting the last new Saturday Night Live of 2017 on December 16th.
