Who Is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: August 5, 2016?

Saturday Night Live is currently taking a well-deserved summer vacation. Well, except for SNL’s Weekend Update anchors, Colin Jost and Michael Che, who will be working at the news desk this August when Weekend Update: Summer Edition premieres this coming Thursday, August 9th at 9pm on NBC. As for the actual variety show, tonight you’re going to have to settle for a rerun featuring host Emily Blunt. Tonight’s encore presentation of Saturday Night Live airing at 11:30pm on NBC was recorded last year, on October 15, 2016.

Back when this episode aired live, SNL was still mining the gold that was the 2016 Presidential Election. While Emily Blunt, who was promoting her film, “The Girl on the Train“, underwhelmed as a host, Alec Baldwin was back as then-candidate Donald Trump and really pissing off the Republican nominee. It was Baldwin’s third Trump appearance and The Donald once again took to Twitter to voice his displeasure.

What was the hit job that Trump was referring to? It was SNL‘s cold open for this episode which was a sketch centered around Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s Town Hall debate. It’s worth a second look just for the “Jaws” scored pacing Donald Trump did during the debate which made him look more like a stalker than a candidate for President. Also, the must-see of this sketch was something the IBang predicted going into that Saturday. It’s Bobby Moynihan as debate questioner Ken Bone. Forgot who Ken Bone is? Tune in tonight and remind yourself.

As for the rest of the show, it’s pretty unforgettable. This episode might be more well known for a sketch that just did not work and blew up on the launchpad. “Drive Through Window ” went nowhere and featured Pete Davidson as a fast food drive-thru worker who had to deal with a long (really long) parade of different characters passing his window.

Other sketches that filled out the night included an SNL Digital Short called “Melanianade” featuring the women in Donald Trump’s life who have had enough of him, in a take-off of Beyonce’s “Sorry”, plus a sketch about a talking sink, and one featuring malfunctioning robots at a Honda auto show.

In the promos for this week’s episodes, Emily Blunt was joined by cast member Beck Bennett at Little Italy Pizza on 45th street where she helped him deal with his pizza grease and gave up a spoiler for “The Girl on the Train“. In the other set of promos, Emily and musical guest Bruno Mars promote the show and Emily earns a slow-clap from Bruno.
