Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: April 1, 2017

If it feels like a long time since you’ve seen a live edition of Saturday Night Live, you’re right, but you’re going to have to wait one more week. Tonight, SNL continues its break, and NBC will be running a repeat episode from earlier this season. The good news is, it’s one of the best episodes of Season 42, hosted by Alec Baldwin with musical guest Ed Sheeran.

This was Alec Baldwin’s 17th time hosting the show- a record number of appearances- and that doesn’t even include all the weeks that he’s appeared as a regular this season in the guise of Donald Trump. For Baldwin’s record setting episode, there were no speed bumps, no slow moments, no bad sketches. And there were great guest stars including Melissa McCarthy and Tracy Morgan.

You will get to see a self-deprecating Baldwin in the monologue, McCarthy reprising her new “instant classic” role as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and perhaps upping the game from her first appearance, and in the best sketch of the night, Baldwin plays an Armed Forces colonel who makes things uncomfortable by going a little too easy on his son who is under his command. The Trump travel ban is addressed in The People’s Court with Judge Milian, and Tracy Morgan plays one of Beyonce’s in-utero Twins with Kenan Thompson.

Weekend Update spawned a new recurring character with “Guy Who Just Bought a Boat” and Kate McKinnon’s Elizabeth Warren makes an appearance and Che and Jost are both on the top of their game.

Other highlights include three fantastic digital shorts- one starring Leslie Jones trying to fulfill a dream, one with Kate McKinnon as Kellyanne Conway trying to get back on CNN, and an ad parody that blends Black History Month with a Valentine’s Day Tradition.

This episode is SNL at its absolute best. Next week, Saturday Night Live is back, live, promising another smash hit with Louis C.K. hosting and that kicks off a run of new episodes, with Jimmy Fallon returning to NBC to host on April 15.
