The Filtered Excellence: September 22, 2011

Bob Geldof once asked us, Where is the Filtered Excellence!?  It’s right here. Check this column each week, to find out what we’re watching, reading, listening to, and loving right now:

WATCH THIS

Catching Hell: The amazing story of Cubs fan Steve Bartmen is examined in this must watch documentary. Bartman, as you remember, deflected the ball in a move that many believe destroyed the Cubs shot at the pennant in 2003. Directed by Academy Award Winner Alex Gibney, it debuts this Tuesday on ESPN at 8pm est.

LISTEN TO THIS

World Wide Rebel Songs:  The 5th studio release of Tom Morello’s The Nightwatchman was released this month.  Its first single, Black Suicide Heart Attack Machine could be the strongest new Rock song of the year.

Dark Side of the Moon Reissue:  EMI and Pink Floyd are joining up to launch a tremendous re-release campaign called “Why Pink Floyd?”  This week we recommend one of the first releases in the project, the Dark Side Immersion Experience  which includes remastered, previously unreleased and audio-visual material, plus reproduced memorabilia, brand new graphics, art prints, collectors’ items, lavish booklets and more.

Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs:   Couldn’t sing a lick, but what a photographer.  Incredible retrospective of her public and personal photographs. Pick up this beautiful look back at the late Linda McCartney’s life and artistry, published by TASCHEN.

East Side Dave Country:   We love everything David McDonald and if you visit eastsidedavecountry.com you can find and download the Davey Mac Sports Report, see his latest videos, and find out everything you need to know about his other projects, including Special Delivery, 90.5 The Night and more.

DO THIS

DeKooning Exhibition at the MoMA:  Art fans will want to make sure they get to New York to see this incredible and massive exhibition of DeKooning’s paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture.  Taking up the entire sixth floor of the Museum of Modern Art in New York city, this exhibit will not be traveling so don’t wait for it to come to a city near you.  On exhibition now through January 9.

TRY THIS

Ito En’s Teas Teas:  When some of our staffers decided to give up sugary drinks, and artificial sweeteners, we went looking for something other than water.   Ito En drinks are made with top quality teas, have no sugar, no artificial sweeteners and come in lots of great flavors.  More supermarkets are starting to carry them, including Whole Foods and Wegmans, and lots of local stores too.  Our favorite is the green tea.
