Wes Anderson Designed His Own Bar In Italy

Having champagne cocktails with Max Fischer? Joining the Fantastic Mr. Fox for some Bean’s Alcoholic Cider? Or is there time for a vodka martini with Royal Tenenbaum and Pagoda? There’s a bar opening this weekend which would be the perfect place to enjoy all these cocktails. Bar Luce in Milan, Italy was completely designed by Wes Anderson. It has its grand opening this Saturday.

The bar which has the aesthetic of Wes Anderson’s film sets, is located in the new art and culture complex, Fondazione Prada, created by the fashion company which is located in a converted  Milan distillery from the 1910s. Wes Anderson’s Bar Luce is described by Wired as a place where “you can sit at a vintage formica table, sip a Campari on the rocks, and pretend you’re in 1950’s Italy.” The bar also has a retro jukebox and pinball machines. One of which has a “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” theme.

Wes attributes his inspiration for his bar to two Italian films, 1951’s Miracolo a Milano and 1960’s Rocco E I Suoi Fratelli. He says, “I think it would be an even better place to write a movie. I tried to make it a bar I would want to spend my own non-fictional afternoons in.”
