Weed Saved Kevin Smith’s Life

Tuesday night during an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, Kevin Smith revealed that he believes smoking pot saved his life.

Smith had a heart attack while taping his Showtime special (he was actually in between two planned tapings when he had the attack). He told the audience that he had smoked joint just prior to recording the first show that night, and asked his doctor if the weed could have contributed to the heart attack. He told Colbert, the doctor said that on the contrary, the weed saved his life. “He said, ‘You kept calm. They told you you were having a massive heart attack, and you remained calm the whole time, so that joint saved your life.'”

Smith he began to feel “unwell” after getting offstage, sweating and throwing up. The special, titled “Silent But Deadly” premieres Friday May 11, at 9pm on Showtime.
