Watch the Trailers for Mr. Robinson and The Carmichael Show
NBC has released trailers for two new series centered on stand up comedians– Mr. Robinson and The Carmichael Show. Both shows are slated for short series runs beginning August 5th and will air on Wednesday nights at 9pm and 9:30pm respectively.
Mr. Robinson stars Craig Robinson as a lead singer and keyboardist for a funk band, who moonlights as a substitute high school music teacher o help pay the bills. Frasier’s Perry Gilpin plays the school principle who will clash with Robinson’s teaching style. Meagan Good, Ben Koldyke, Amandla Stenberg, Brandon T. Jackson, Spencer Grammer and Tim Bagley round out the cast.
The Carmichael Show (previously titled Go Jerrod Go) is inspired by Carmichael’s life and stand up, and stars Jerrod. The series focuses on Jerrod’s relationships with a contrarian father played by comedian David Alan Grier, a hustling brother played by comedian Lil Rel Howery, his mom who is “always right with Jesus” played by Loretta Devine. and his “therapist-in-training” girlfriend played by Amber West. Jerrod Carmichael, Nick Stoller and Ravi Nandan serve as executive producers.
