Your Ultimate 2017-2018 Network Comedy Renewal/Cancellation and Series Pick Up Guide (Updated)

Around this time each year, TV fans are faced with the prospect of welcoming some promising new shows, while also potentially saying goodbye to some real gems. It’s a difficult time, we know, and The IBang is here to guide you through that process. Many of the renewals are a given, but there are a few shows that got the ax seemingly before their time was up (RIP Son of Zorn). So, without further ado, here is a (periodically updated) list of all of the comedies that are either coming or going from network TV this season.

ABC New Comedy Series Pick Ups

The Mayor follows a young rapper who needs his big break, and is tired of waiting so he plans a gigantic publicity stunt- running for mayor of his hometown to jump-start his career.  He wins and has to try to be the mayor he never wanted to be. Stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Yvette Nicole Brown, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears and Lea Michele.

Splitting Up Together stars Van Crosby, Jenna Fischer, Sander Thomas, Oliver Hudson and Olivia Keville.

Untitled Zach Braff Project with Audyssie James, Elisha Henig, Tiya Sircar, Zach Braff , Hillary Anne Matthews and Michael Imperioli. Inspired by the podcast Startup, the series stars Braff as a radio journalist and family man who is about to quit his job and start his own company.

CBS New Comedy Series Pick Ups

By the Book (previously named Living Biblically) about a modern day man at a crossroads in his life who decides to live according to the Bible. It stars Jay R. Ferguson, Lindsey Kraft, Ian Gomez, David Krumholtz, Tony Rock and Camryn Manheim.

Young Sheldon series spinoff from The Big Bang Theory starring Iain Armitage and Zoe Perry.

9JKL is a family comedy starring and based on Mark Feuerstein living in apartment 9K in the building he grew up  in, sandwiched between his doting parents’ apartment, 9J, and his brother, sister-in-law and their baby’s apartment, 9L.  Stars Feurstein with Linda Lavin, Elliott Gould, David Walton, Liza Lapira, and Matt Murray.

Me, Myself & I examines one man’s life in three time periods– as a 14 year old in 1991, a 40 year old today and a 65 year old in the future.  Stars Bobby Moynihan, Jack Dylan Grazer, Brian Unger, Jaleel White, Kelen Coleman, Skylar Gray, Christopher Paul Richards, Mandell Maughan, and Reylynn Caster  with Sharon Lawrence and John Larroquette.

Fox New Comedy Series Pickups

Ghosted starring Craig Robinson and Adam Scott. Robinson plays a cynical skeptic who, along with a “true believer” (Scott) are recruited by a secret government agency to look into unexplained activity in Los Angeles.

L.A. to Vegas starring Dylan McDermott is EP’ed by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. It’s an ensemble workplace comedy about an airline crew and the eccentric passengers.

The Orville. It’s a new sci-fi comedy from Family Guy‘s Seth MacFarlane. Taking place 400 years in our future, the series follows the “workplace antics on a mid-level exploratory vessel staffed with a mix of humans and aliens.”

NBC New Comedy Series Pickups

A.P. Bio starring Glenn Howerton as a scholar who loses a great gig and goes to teach AP Bio in high school.  Also stars Patton Oswalt, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Aparna Brielle, Jacob McCarthy, Nick Peine and guest star Vanessa Bayer.

Good Girls starring Retta is a dramedy  about three suburban moms who go rogue.

Will & Grace. Megan Mullally, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes in a 12 episode limited run reunion series.

Champions. Mindy Kaling brings this series about an ambitionless gym owner who lives with his younger brother living a simple life of girls and working out, when suddenly, an old high school fling (Kaling, who will have a recurring role) drops off a surprise teenage son. Stars Anders Holm, and Andy Favreau.
