Uh Oh Bill Cosby, Now You’ve Even Lost Whoopi

Today on The View, Whoopi finally relented and admitted Bill Cosby is probably guilty.  We were hoping this big event might take place on Thursday when director and Bill Cosby antagonist Judd Apatow is scheduled to appear on the show. But it actually was ABC’s Chief Legal Analyst, Dan Abrams, who instigated the change of heart.  Whoopi sat alone on the stage with Abrams, giving the segment a “big moment” feeling, and listened cautiously, as she slowly found out what everyone already knew.

Just last week, Whoopi shouted at her audience saying, “It’s my opinion, and the American courts agree with me because still he has not been taken to jail or tried on anything. So back off me!”  Whoopi’s adamant insistence that Cosby is “innocent till proven guilty in a court of law” was finally laid to rest after Abrams was finally able to explain to the host that because of the statute of limitations, he can’t be found guilty.   So it’s not that the courts agree with her, it’s just that he can no longer be brought up on charges.

“That’s a shock to me cause I always thought if you could take somebody to court, then you could have the accuser saying that’s who did it.” Whoopi said, adding, “But you’re saying all that is left to these women is the court of public opinion.” And she wants to know who do we write to, to get the statue of limitations “taken off.”

“There is no recourse for these women except what they are doing,” she finally agreed. “If this is to be tried in the court of public opinion I gotta say, all of the information that’s out there kinda points to guilt. Now, again, I always thought they would have the opportunity to take him to court, but [Abrams is] saying that’s not true.”

“You got a serial rapist, he’s been on the streets for 30 years,” Whoopi said. “I thought, ‘Here’s all the information. Take his ass to jail.’ I find out from you that that’s not possible…So, I can’t say any more ‘innocent until proven guilty’.”

Finally she said what everyone’s been waiting to hear, “It looks bad, Bill. Either speak up or shut up, cause people know now there’s a lot more out there than they thought.”

This all leaves the question of why didn’t she just ask someone to explain this to her before she started shouting at America? Maybe she’ll decide to learn more about some of the other people she’s been supporting.

This week on “Last Week Tonight” Whoopi’s dogged determination to support Cosby inspired this segment “Whoopi Will Defend Anything.”  Will she be thinking Roman Polanski, Ray Rice and Chris Brown next?
