That Twitter Account That “Proves” World Cup Fix Is A Hoax

sbnation-star-logo-whitev7210Ah, the internet: if it’s not outraged, it’s full of shit. Remember that when someone you know posts on Facebook that there’s proof FIFA rigged the World Cup because a Twitter account predicted how the match would play out. Here’s what actually happened:

Someone created a “FIFA Corruption” account, first tweeting “Prove FIFA is corrupt,” and protecting it so no one could read the tweets. They tweeted out as many scenarios as they could think of the day before the actual final.

When the match hit FT, they deleted all the tweets that did not fit and went public: all the rubes came across it, saw the day-old time stamp, and thought it was real.

And it’ll work, unless someone is familiar with the process. And if someone can score a screen cap before the changes take place.
