Triumph The Insult Comic Dog Covers Trump’s Inauguration for Conan

One of the best things to come out of last year’s tense and bizarre Presidential election, was the political reporting from Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Triumph via Robert Smigel (the puppet dog’s creator, owner, comedy partner, etc) hosted election specials for Hulu produced by Conan O’Brien who also booked the Insult Comic Dog on his late night show during the election year. As for the 2016 election, Conan had one more assignment for Team Coco’s top political correspondent; he sent Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to Washington D.C. to cover President Donald J. Trump’s inauguration.

It was a cold, wet Inauguration Day with an overcast sky in D.C. which Triumph simply chalked up to the Sun being “just one more of the many big stars who refused to show up for this event.” The insult puppet dog made his way through the crowd. He described the onlookers by their age, weight and race saying, the audience was “Roseannes and Fieris as far as the eye can see” and that “If a Walmart could vomit, this is what would come out.”

As part of his report, Triumph explained another important reason for the Secret Service to be there, scalped counterfeit tickets and gave a new nickname to Melania Trump. You can watch Triumph’s coverage below, but you really don’t have to in order to know that the First Lady wouldn’t approve of her new moniker.

Triumph also did something most political reporters refuse to do. He handed out tchotchkes. Several audience members got Trump signature red caps, but with updated slogans on them to replace “Make America Great Again”. Other verbal victims of the Insult Comic Dog included Mike Pence, brothers Don Jr. and Eric, and Betty White had her name dragged into Triumph’s coverage as well.

The whole report finished up with a bad reaction to “President Trump”. All in all, it was a great Inauguration Day….a great Inauguration Day…for Triumph to poop on!!!

You can still watch Triumph’s Election Watch 2016 -The Finale on Hulu.
