Tom Segura’s New Special Is Upsetting Louisiana Fans

In his new Netflix Special, Disgraced, Tom Segura jokes about Cajun people from Louisiana, and a few fans from the region are pissed.

The bit that people are upset about opens with “don’t you hate….everyone?” and transitions into a story about meeting a weird dude from Lafayette, Louisiana. Segura jokes primarily about the man’s accent being difficult to understand, describing the encounter after a Louisiana show with the local man. The man (who according to a Redditor was drunk) asked him if Tom was from Louisiana. In the bit, Segura says he couldn’t understand what he was saying.  “We have this whole population of Cajun people living amongst us…like they’re one of us…and they’re not,” he says, adding, “Why do they have rights?” Then he uses a few words that hurt some feelings, like cartoon characters, and swamp people before joking that he supports building a wall around the state of Louisiana “because those people are out of their fucking minds.” You can hear the bit, or at least part of it, below.

For the fans who aren’t laughing, there are social media rants, and Segura is getting hate mail daily from pissed off Louisianans, with some who are so pissed they are willing to cancel their Netflix subs if the hour isn’t taken down.

It’s been going on for the last ten days, since the special debuted on the 12th, but Segura has been posting more of the hate over the weekend.

Segura’s newest hour, Disgraceful, is available on Netflix now.

Not everyone is pissed, even some Louisianan’s are cool with it all.
