Comedy Central announced that their new three-part series “Time Traveling Bong” will debut, appropriately, at 10:30 p.m. ET on 4/20.  The show comes from the minds of Broad City’s Ilana Glazer, Paul W. Downs, and Lucia Aniello.  The trio wrote the series together, with Glazer and Downs starring and Aniello directing.

“Time Traveling Bong” is exactly what it sounds like and should be familiar to all Bill and Ted fans: Cousins Jeff and Sharee discover a bong with an inscription that reads “Smoke once to travel, smoke again to return.” After some convincing, the two end up hitting the bong — and wind up in Salem, Massachusetts during the witch trials, where the bong is promptly broken. This leads to the sci-fi explanation from Sharee that “the structural integrity of the bong is changed so we can’t get home, and we have no ability to control where we go forcing us to bounce around the space time continuum indefinitely?!”

The pair are a couple of mediocre cousins from the suburbs, and so are woefully unprepared for the insane adventures that they get roped into as they smoke their way through time. They jump all over the timeline: from ancient Greece, to the South in the 1960’s, and even to a dystopian future as they try to make their way back home.

To accompany the three part feature, fans can check out additional content on cc.com/timetravelingbong. The content includes “After the Smoke Clears,” a series that checks back in with the characters that Sharee and Jeff met during their travels to see how their lives have been changed, and “Behind the Bong,” which shows the process of creating the various sets for the distant future, colonial America, ancient Greece and so on.

Glazer, along with Abbi Jacobson, created and stars in the Comedy Central hit Broad City. She also writes and executive produces the series, and has enjoyed much success in the two years that have passed since the show first premiered. In 2014, The UCB alum was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Television Award, and recently had a role in the holiday film “The Night Before’ alongside Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.   Downs, who plays Trey on Broad City, has a half hour stand-up special on Netflix and has a role in the upcoming indie film Ghost Team. Aniello is a co-executive producer, director, and writer of Broad City, who is a part of a comedy team called Pauliu along with Downs.

Part one of Time Traveling Bong will premiere on April 20th at 10:30 p.m., right after the season three finale of Broad City. Part two will air April 21st at 10:30 p.m., and part three will air April 23rd at the same time. The series can be watched on air or online at Comedy Central’s website.
