Tiffany Haddish, 2018 It Girl, Snags MTV Awards Host Spot

Tiffany Haddish continues grabbing all the big gigs that a rising comedy star would want to grab. Her meteoric rise since all-but-stealing the 2017 summer hit movie Girls Trip has echoed Amy Schumer’s 2015 industry streamroll in so many ways.  On Thursday, MTV announced that Tiffany will host this year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards- a gig Schumer grabbed in 2015.  Although the awards show itself might have dimmed in recent years with young audiences, the hosting job still looks good on a young rising star’s sheet.

In the past five years, hosts of the young adult award show have included Adam Devine, Kevin Hart and The Rock, Amy Schumer, and Conan O’Brien. Pretty good company.

“Tiffany Haddish is quickly establishing herself as one of the most sought-after actresses and comedic talents in television and film,” said an MTV spokesperson. Haddish’s recent credits are all prestigious– she just became the first female black comedian to host SNL, wrote a bestseller, stole a blockbuster movie from her more famous co-stars, released her debut stand up special on Showtime, landed a Super Bowl ad and a spokesperson gig for Groupon, helped announce the Oscar nominations, and that’s nothing compared to what is coming. She’s co-starring in Tracy Morgan’s upcoming tv series The O.G., will star opposite Kevin Hart in Night School, she just landed the lead voice role in a Netflix animated series, and she’s got a bunch of movies on her slate including one she’s set to executive produce.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards will air on Monday, June 18 at 9 pm.
