Chug some ayahuasca, start chanting your favorite mantra, and prepare to blast through the multiverse with comedian . Like Alan Watts & Bill Hicks before him, combines philosophies both ancient and contemporary with subversive comedy to create one of the most unusual podcasts anywhere on the internet. You will find yourself laughing out loud while pondering the nature of reality all at the same time. Spirituality, both dark and light, combined with comedy and a thorough examination of craft are all reasons why The Duncan Trussell Family Hour is The Podcast You Absolutely Have To Listen To.

It’s tough to explain what to expect from a typical episode of the DTFH, because Trussell’s  background and interests are so diverse.  The show begins with a choir of innocent children singing (from the Jim Jones’ People’s Temple Choir), followed by a demonic voice, which sets the tone for this dark, and light cosmic tour. Fans agree that one of the most easily satisfying parts of the podcast is the show opener. Each episode has a unique improvised monologue from Duncan that interlaces brilliantly placed advertisement live reads. Trussell’s knack for stream of conscience improvisation alone — evidenced beautifully in each opener– makes the podcast worth your time.

You will find yourself laughing out loud while pondering the nature of reality all at the same time.

Guests are as diverse as Trussell’s interests.   One week will showcase a comedian friend– ,  , etc. Another week, perhaps author & world traveller Graham Hancock, or spiritual teacher Ram Dass (recorded while Duncan was at a mediation retreat in Hawaii).  You might hear him debate the early 20th century ideas of Rudolf Steiner with gay porn star Conner Habib; even Duncan’s own mother has been a guest.  Another branch of DTFH is the recurring appearances of “The Craftsmen” with comedians  and . “The Craftsmen” deconstruct the craft and creative processes of comedy. In these episodes, aspiring comedians can find valuable information on the business of comedy from working on your writing to how to book gigs, and comedy etiquette.  “The Shrimp Parade” is yet another recurring guest ‘team’ that brings together  and Dr. Chris Ryan (author, sex expert) with Trussell about once a month.

Another element that sets the Duncan Trussell Family Hour apart from other podcasts is the vibrant community that has sprung up around the show. The forum on duncantrussell.com doesn’t only discuss each episode, but often branches off into a variety of discussions and debates, and has even spawned their own podcasts.

Feed your head and step into another realm of altered universes and psychedelic cleansing. Burdened by a name that garners many "unique" nicknames and compliments, Jason Steele likes to spend his time outside of work hiking with his pitbull/boxer mix, Hennessy. He also likes to attempt open mic standup comedy around Rochester NY, writing articles and short stories, and playing guitar.
