The insanity of an election year has only become crazier in the modern era of social media. If mudslinging was previously stricken to only the candidates running for office, the internet has allowed it to become inclusive to the voters as well. One no longer has to yell at their TV to put down an undesirable contender for office. Citizens can tweet that candidate their four-letter-word-feelings directly. The fury of vitriol against an opposing party can be heard everywhere. Actually, it can be seen everywhere and permanently up to 40 characters. Friends, neighbors, lovers, and random strangers get engulfed in a war of words with much less appeal and charm then the final battle in 8 Mile. If politics were complicated before, it’s even harder to make sense of it all today. Unless of course, a person asks a stand up comedian.

Miguel Dalmau is comedian. A good comedian. In fact, within the past year, he has secured a full-time opportunity as a headliner at Morty’s Comedy Joint in Indianapolis. Moving from New York City to Indianapolis was the perfect fit for Dalmau who not only had his debut album, Thank You, That’s My Time, on the way but also his second son.

“Coming out to Indy to be a full-time comedian and raise a family was the best thing I could have done. [The] cost of living is so low that I make a living at comedy, my girl became a stay at home mom, and we go on the road together all the time. To be at the point where I can share my dream and success with my family is amazing.” describes Dalmau.

A key phrase mentioned by Dalmau is “cost of living”. It is the hot button issue of the 2016 election. Dalmau knows full well how expensive the cost of living has become. While in New York City, he would juggle a schedule raising his first son, working as a nurse tech by day, and going out to do comedy in the evenings. However, comedians like Dalmau are observant and analytical by nature. It is no surprise in today’s world audiences turn to comedians to shed some light on the current state of affairs. Before the release of Thank You, That’s My Time, Dalmau provided his take on the 2016 political arena. I asked Dalmau to come up with a list of who he feels are the ten best comedians who would make better presidential candidates. His list and reasons do not disappoint. In fact, he may be on to something here.

  • George Carlin – Listening to his jokes, I realize that this guy understands the political system in a way we need a president to. He also seems like the kind a guy who cares about the poor.
  • Richard Pryor- Pryor, because he would be lenient on drug laws. He knows it’s a disease not a crime.
  • George Lopez- Someone has to finally pass that amnesty for immigrants.
  • Chris Rock- I watched his special, Kill the Messenger, where he performed all over the world. We need a guy in the White House who knows how to get along with other countries.
  • Sarah Silverman- She’s funny, talented, an activist, a strong feminist role model and thinks money should be taken out of politics. She’s a Bernie sanders/ Hillary Clinton baby.
  • Dennis Leary- I miss smoking at bars, I think he will do something to bring that back.
  • Chris Bowers- This is a friend of mine, but this guy is politically smart and spends all of his time and money helping out his less fortunate friends — and even strangers!
  • Bill Burr- He will yell at every politician that comes his way, but some how do it in a charming way that they love him.
  • Jeffrey Ross- Just to watch him roast the U.N.
  • Jon Stewart- It’s Jon Stewart!!! Need I say more!

Miguel Dalmau’s debut album Thank You, That’s My Time will be released May 6th and can be purchased via iTunes or Amazon.
