Taran Killam to Join The Cast of Broadway’s ‘Hamilton’

With some stars, once they’re ousted from the project that made them famous, they fade into obscurity, never appearing in public again except to occasionally sign some over-priced autographs at a convention somewhere. Comedian/actor Taran Killam has decided that fate will not be his.

Killam, along with fellow cast members Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky, was let go from the Saturday Night Live roster back in August after six seasons on the show. While he could have taken some time off to consider his next career move, Killam decided instead to hit the ground running. Within days of his contract termination, Killam was picked up by Showtime to star in their new comedy anthology series Mating. He finished up production on his directorial debut, an action-comedy movie called Why We’re Killing Gunther, and also wrote/starred in the comedy Brother Nature alongside Community’s Gillian Jacobs and SNL’s Bobby Moynihan. A week after being let go, you’d never know that Killam ever lost his job in the first place.

Now, it looks like Killam’s strategy of keeping his eggs in multiple baskets has paid off; it has just been announced that Killam will be joining the cast of Broadway’s Hamilton beginning on January 17th. For his first stint on Broadway, Killam will be playing King George III in what is arguably the most well-received Broadway musical in years. Not a bad way to break into the scene, huh?

You can catch Killam and the rest of the Hamilton cast (including fellow newcomers Anthony Lee Medina, Bryan Terrell Clark, Alysha Deslorieux and J. Quinton Johnson) in action starting in January, 2017 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. For tickets and more information, click here.
